Screen door roller repair in Thousand Oaks

If your sliding screen door is giving you problems rolling on the track it may need repair.  The problem may be from a dirty track or bad a bad roller set.  To clean the track I recommend using a hose and let dry.  After tracks and channels dry they need a lubricant, wd 40 is good.

If you need to replace the rollers try to buy the metal rollers with ball bearings, they will make your screen door seem new. Doing the wheel install lubricate each roller individually and adjust then so they raise the frame and it ends up straight.

Sliding door screen repair solutions in Thousand Oaks

Problems with your sliding screen door can come from the screen falling off track, due to poor rollers,  or the actual frame being too small or too short.  To do proper screen repair you need to locate the problem first. Here are a few places to check for them.

Check the rollers, they may not be rolling properly because they are either not adjusted right, or they may be totally worn out and need to be replaced.  Old worn wheels cause the patio door to get jammed and make it hard to stay on track.

The screen roller type that I recommend is the metal ball bearing kind, it makes the old screen slide like new.  They keep the screen door properly raised and prevent it from getting stuck.

In most cases that I have seen, if the frame is bent, there is a chance of straightening it out.  Next look at the fiberglass insect screen, how does it look?  If it has holes rips or tears chances are the only treatment for this is a total rescreen.

Last but not least, look at the handle, is it broken.  Most screens have plastic handles and the lock latch won’t work.  This is a common problem and unfortunately even if you do fix it, it just won’t hold up. If it’s broke and it’s plastic there is not much you can do to repair the handle. It just wont close.

Different types of screen doors in Thousand Oaks

Are you In Thousand Oaks or Agoura Hills and need a Screen Door?

There are many kinds and brands of screen doors but I’m only going to write about the three different types that most homes have.

  1. The kind the home manufacture puts in
  2. The kind the homeowner replaces from a place like Home depot
  3. the extruded aluminum kind which is the best and will last for 30 years plus.

The patio screen a manufacture put in is a very low quality door, it has plastic handles, plastic rollers and the frame itself is made from roll form steal.  This makes the the screen heavy, flimsy and too much weight for little plastic rollers and the plastic black plastic handles don’t work properly either.

The type of screens from Home depot or similar places are probably the worst screen doors you can buy.  Not only are the made out plastic parts and a very cheap roll-form metal frame, that is way to heavy for the little plastic rollers that can not be adjusted for better rolling but they are a universal one size fit all.

They are fitted with the worst top and bottom adjustment channel that are supposed to be made so the screen shrinks or grows to fit every opening.  They should be avoided at all cost, if possible repair the old one you have but do not get one of these.

Last is the best, the extruded aluminum light weight and extremely strong sliding screen that is always made custom and comes with all metal parts.  It slide super smooth and you will never have a problem with them.  As if that was not enough I offer a 10 year guarantee on them.

Is Your Sliding Screen Door Falling Off Track?

If you live in Agoura Hills and having problems with a sliding screen door falling off track, we can help. The first thing you need to check is the rollers first to see if they are lifted enough.  The screen doors frame needs to be off the track and to do this you need to lift the rollers with a screw driver.

All porch door have adjustment holes next to the wheels to lift and drop, so make sure you try doing that fist. Next you will want to spay some oil on each roller to see if that makes it roll better.  If they are sticking this will cause the screen door to fall off track or not slide properly.

Fixing a sliding screen door gap

Is there a gap on the bottom of your sliding screen door?  Do you see a bit of light somewhere around the screen frame? maybe at the top you see a crack of light coming in, or even the screen door does not close properly leaving a crack on top or the bottom.

Gap at bottom of screen door frame

If you have a bit of light coming in at the bottom it could be that your screen frame is raised too much and need to be lowered.  To lower the door you will need to lower the roller on each site of the bottom, the right and the left. With a philips screw driver just put it in the side of the frame or the top part and turning counter clockwise you will notice the screen door drop.

Gap at top of screen door frame

If you have light coming in at the top of the door then what your patio screen needs to be raised to cover the gap.  To raise screen follow the instructions above but turning the screw driver clockwise instead and make sure the frame is rising.

Some porch screendoors have a top and bottom channel that makes them universal, this means one size fits all.  Both top and bottom channels are adjustable and are specifically made for covering gaps and finding a proper tight fit.  They are not very good sliding doors bt will last a few seasons with minor sliding problem.

Adjusting the top rails on these screens is fairly easy and u can buy one at your local hardware store like Home depot.  They come with plastic rollers and can NOT be adjusted, thats why you have to adjust the channels.

Basic screen repair tips Agoura Hills

When dealing with screens it can be a bit touchy because they are so fragile and we really don’t give them much importance, until a insect lands on your plate.  If you like to keep your windows and doors open and your screening mesh has holes, tears or rips, your going to be in for it.

One of the most used doors in the home is the patio door that  eads to the pool area, everyone goes in and out of it all day long and another is the front porch screen. Not all screen repair is the same.  When it comes to the fiberglass wire you have choices the best option in bugscreen you can use is petscreen is is 7 times stronger and will withstand lots of pushing.  Dogs and cats really hate, it takes them forever to rip it.

When using petproof material that your pets will absolutely hate, make sure the aluminum frame is straight and still in good enough shape and the spline goes in tight.  This will cause the screen to be super strong when your kids or pets push on it, even a knife will have problems going through it.
